26 participants took the 5 day course conducted by experienced FIFA Instructor Talib Hilal Mohammed, from Oman who said Ghana has the potential to become one of the best beach soccer nations in the world. He noted that there is the need for the coaches to organize more programmes apart from the two leagues sponsored by CAL Bank and Clementia Contacto.
He said programmes like schools competitions for students, churches and fun clubs can by organized at the beach.
“Ghana has nice beaches and you have to take advantage of it to develop the game and promote tourism” he said.
Talib Hilal who is the coach of the Oman Beach Soccer team, winning laurels for his country and participating at the FIFA Beach expressed his satisfaction with the performance of the coaches who went through drills of theoretical and practical training at the Ningo and La Pleasure Beach Arena.
Mr. Charles Aryeh, Director of the Center adviced the coaches to use what they have learnt to promote and develop the sport which is now the fastest growing FIFA programme.
Some of the coaches were appointed to form the interim executive of the Ghana Beach Soccer Coaches Union. They include Theo Armah of Teshie United whose team won the Division One League as Chairman, Maxwell Kpeglo of Ada Assurance, Vice Chairman, Sammy Heywood Okine of Chorkor Blue Whales as Secretary, Solomon Arthur of Dansoman as Assistant Secretary, Johnny Heman- Mawusi of Gulf Powers as Treasurer and Ellis Nii Laaye Bonney of LAYOCA as the Public Relations Officer.
Julius Ceaser Beckley of Premier League winners, Sunset Sports of Keta was made the Assistant PRO, with experienced Daniel Anue Mensah of the Greater Accra Regional FA as Executive Member alongside, Maxwell Kofi Guady of East Legon Sharks and Coach Ato of Senya Bereku Sharks.
