GBSA for congress August 18, 2012 …Championships kick off on September 1, 2012

The Ghana Beach Soccer Association will gather at the Media Centre of the Accra Sports Stadium on Saturday August 18, 2012 to hold its second congress to usher in the 2012/13 season which promises to be extra exciting as some new clubs have submitted their applications to join in the fastest growing sports discipline in the world.

At a meeting held at the same venue on Wednesday July 24, 2012, club representatives agreed that the congress should precede all events of the Association.

A one day Gala has been proposed to be played in Keta in the Volta Region on Saturday August 25, 2012 to apiece the fans of beach soccer in the area and to recognise the efforts of Keta Sunset, the club that won the first ever organised beach soccer professional league in Ghana.

Meanwhile, clubs are encouraged to start registering their players from August 20 to August 31for the leagues which kick off on September 1, 2012 at the La Pleasure Beach Arena.

Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, President of the GBSA assured the teams that every thing is being done right to ensure another successful season. He prayed that next season will be better organised than the previous year.

On the congress, he said decisions will be taken on how to get Ghana fully recognised by FIFA and CAF so that the nation takes part in international competitions like the next Olympic Games, Beach Soccer World Cup qualifiers and other international friendly matches.

He disclosed that FIFA has congratulated the country for organising two leagues (Premier and Division One), and the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has shown its commitment to support the GBSA but recommending some 10 officials representing the top clubs to participate in a FIFA Beach Soccer Coaching Course.

According to the President of GBSA, these courses are really held and it is a great opportunity for Ghana and those who will participate.

Chief Bakari, a top football consultant also assured the clubs that there are good and positive ideas in the pipeline to take GBSA to the next level. He promised a trophy and medals for the winners of the next league.

He urged the clubs to maintain their teams and train hard to be recognised as the national team will soon be selected from the league and those luck players will have the chance to participate in international assignments. He thanked the Ghanaian media for supporting the GBSA, and prayed that they do more and also bring on board other media organisations that do not cover beach soccer, known to be the fastest developing programme of FIFA.

Teshie United and Nungua Beach Soccer Clubs have gained promotion to play in the Championship, formerly called the Premiership, while Osu Dolphins and Senya Bereku Sharks have been demoted to play in the tough Division One League.

Keta Sunset won the Premiership, but they will not get it easy again as Dansoman United, one of the teams that drew with them in the league have promised to shock all the 10 teams that will compete in the Championship.

For the Division One League, it seems to be a straight fight between Gulf Powers, Chorkor Blue Whales (the Bonso Boys) and African Angels.

Nima Beach Soccer, who placed sixth position, but won the Fair Play Award have warned that they should not be ruled out.
