Beach soccer season 2011/12 ends with mixed feelings

...as Keta Sunset lift first CAL Bank Cup
The first beach soccer league in Ghana came an end last Saturday at the La Pleasure Beach with the Minister of Youth and Sports promising to build a real arena for the sport which is growing very fast.

Hon. Kofi Humado praised the organisers of the game and commended the sponsors, CAL Bank and Clementia Contacto who have also promised to increase their packages in the coming years.

Keta Sunset were crowned the champions of the Premiership, while Teshie won the Division One League, piping contenders, Nungua and Blue Whales.

Richard Osa of La Wuo Gbee took the goal king with his haul of 30 goals beating Sunset’s Michael Sema and Laweh of Ada Assurance, while Senya Breku too the Fair Play Cup.
In the Division One League, Teshie striker, Yemofio took the Goal King with 20 goals, while Nima took the Fair Play Shield.

Gulf Powers, Nungua and Blue Whales expected to receive some honours but they were shunned by the Ghana Beach Soccer Association (GBSA).

Top player, Tornado Skilsman who wished to win nthe best player told yours truly he was very disappointed and could quit if that is the way the authorities of thev sport would behave.
Gulf Powers coach john mawusi noted that they deserved an award, but they were ignored whilst the coach of Blue Whales said the faceless Technical Committee of the GBSA failed as there was no transparency in the selection of award winners.

Angela Asante of World Sports Center said there was no committee to select the best club, players and coach and was very sorry the way things went, however she was happy there was no fight or tension on the last day.

In the coronation match Keta Sunset thrashed Teshie 3-0 to warn them of what they should expect in the Premiership. All goals came in a spell of five minutes.

The game really exposed Teshie and the bankruptcy of their technical men as the found no solution to the speed and stamina of the Keta` lads who enjoyed the support of hundreds of their fans who had been carted to the venue by bus.

Among the dignitaries who graced the final day were Miss Tourism, Francis Oti Akenteng, the GFA Technical Director, Worlanyo Agra the DG of the NSA, Hon. Kofi Humado, the Minister of Youth and Sports, representatives of CAL Bank, DSTV, Voltic and Clementia Contacto.
