Keta Sunset won their week 17 encounter against Dansoman Beach Soccer Club in controversial circumstances. Trailing 3-0, Dansoman players walked off the sand arena following a dissalowed goal by referee George Darko. The incident which took place early in the second quarter brought the match to a standstill for several minutes until the Dansoman bench ordered their players to discontinue the match and thus forfeit the game. The result means Keta Sunset are still unbeaten and are within touching distance of winning their first ever title.
Mathematically however, their second placed rivals Havedzi Mighty Warriors, also from Keta, are still in contention for the grand prize should the leaders slip up.
Havedzi Mighty Warriors maintained the pressure with a 5-1 thrashing of relegation threatened Senya Sharks.
There were more goals to enjoy when Joseph Larweh of Ada Assurance scored all seven goals in his sides 7-0 win over East Legon Sharks.
In other results, third place Wuo Gb33 beat Tegbi Youth 4-1, while the fixture between local team LAYOCA and relegation certainties Osu Dolphins was called off as both teams failed to register their players on match day.
In the second tier league, the battle for the title and promotion is as keen as it was from day one in October 2011.
Teshie United finally broke away from closest rivals Nungua Bsc at the top after the former beat Nima 3-1 while the latter suffered a 6-5 defeat at the hands of Chokor Blue Whales.
Jamestown Octopus and Global Supporters Bsc are firmly rooted at the bottom of the division1 league with neither side picking up a point.
The final day of matches in two weeks time will be played in front of high profile officials including the President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Minister of Youth and Sports and the Director of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA).
According to Fred Afful who is the manager of the La Pleasure Beach resort, the event promises to more than just exciting matches on the final day. ”We will make it a whole communities get-togerther to promote peace and unity especially among the youth from different parts of the country in these challenging times”.
The GBSA is also expected to announce a full programme schedule for the final day which would also highlight the various cultures of the teams from the coastal areas of Greater Accra, Volta, Central and Western regions.
