International Games Committee inaugurated

A 29-man Games committee has been inaugurated to oversee Ghana’s preparation and participation for this year’s All African Games to be held in Congo in September.
The committee as part of the Terms of Reference has been tasked to consider and select with justification disciplines in which Ghana will participate in.

They will also have to source for adequate funds from both government and private sources and ensure that the budget for the Games is presented on time.

The committee will also have to ensure the appropriate logistics are readily available for both training and participation for Team Ghana and again ensure satisfactory travelling arrangements for Ghana’s contingent and present a detailed report after the Games.

Minister of Youth and Sports, Dr Mustapha Ahmed (rtd) said public expectation for good performance from the country’s sporting activities has become high therefore he hopes the work of the committee will have a positive impact on the Games.

He said problems that characterized Ghana’s participation in the 2011 Maputo Games and the 2014 World Cup fiasco are still etched in the minds of Ghanaians therefore the committee should use them as guiding principles for their work.

He added that the dream of going to Congo is to excel but added that that can only be achieved through the commitment and dedication of the committee members.

The 28-man planning committee is made up of; Rev. Cornelius Adjah-Coffie (Disabled Sports), Prof. Francis Dodoo (Athletics), Mr Nestor Ghalley (Badminton), Mohammed Shanoon (Cycling) and Mohammed Mahadi (Fencing).

Others are; Emmanuel Tetteh (Judo), Theophilus Wilson Edzi (Swimming), Mawuko Afadzinu (Table Tennis), Frank Fameye (Taekwondo), Justice E.Y Obimpeh (Tennis), Ben Nunoo-Mensah (Weightlifting) and Paul Atchoe (Volleyball).

Some of the committee members are; Oti Akenteng (football), a rep each from Karate-Do, Amateur Boxing, Ministry of finance, Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Youth and Sports (MoYS).

The rest are; The President and Secretary General of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), Director of Sports (MoYS), Dep. Director (MoYS), rep of Director of finance (MoYS), Joe Kpenge (Dir. Gen., NSA), Saka Acquaye (Dep. Dir., Technical-NSA), Emmanuel Sackey (Internal Auditor, NSA), Frederica Mensah-Davies (Ag.Head of PR, NSA), Rev, Otoo (Chief Accountant, NSA) and Musah Abdulai (Ag.Dep. Dir., Administration – NSA).
