The National sports authority will like to state that a letter dated 15th October, 2014 was written to the Authority by the Ghana Athletics Association in connection with the above. In response to that letter, the Director General of the Authority advised and encouraged the GAA to ensure that:
i. All Regional congress are held and the executives responsible for the regional executives for the regional Association of Ghana and other affiliate institution are well constituted prior to the congress date and in accordance to the Associations own constitution.
ii. All relevant constitutional provisions as well as institutional processes and procedures are adhered to, to avoid unnecessary bickering that have characterized our body sports in recent times.
The letter went on to state that the Authority deem it necessary and trust that the Association will do everything humbly possible to ensure that an incident free National congress as scheduled.
Nowhere in the letter to the GAA did the Director General of the Authority order the Association to organize elections. As such, we deem it very unfortunate that he has been quoted out of context. We would appreciate it very much if your newspaper as well as the original source of the news item sportscrusader.com retracts the comments purported to have come from the Director General of the NSA, Mr Joe Kpenge and prints this rejoinder.
