Government To Support Hockey Association

The Minister for Youth and Sports, Hon. Clement K. Humado has stated that government will support the Ghana Hockey Association (GHA) in their programmes next year.



He confirmed the receipt of a budget from the association and said he has asked the Chief Director of the ministry, Alhaji Abudulai Yakubu to study it act on it.


Hon. Humado said this during the signing of a contract for the construction of a 15,000 seated stadium worth USD$30million adding that  that the hockey teams also represent the country just like any other sport and therefore it was government’s obligation to support them in their competitions.


It would be recalled that the hockey association when it hosted the Hockey World League Series (WLS) in September this year under the auspices of the President of the association, Oko Niikoi Dzani.


The competition saw the senior female team qualifying for the next round which will be staged in Cape Town, South Africa from January 21, 2013 to January 28, 2013.


In a related development, the senior national hockey female team has resumed training after breaking camp to make way for the just ended Africa Club Championship in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe.
