The competition which is expected to be held annually is backed by the His Excellency, the India High Commissioner; Mr. Rajinder Bhagat. It will feature four teams namely the Veterans CC, BGC 1 CC, Under 17 CC and Bel Aqua CC.
Mr. Bhagat was a former India International Cricket Club and played for Anritsar Punjab one of the finest India Cricket Clubs and was also major contributor to the success of Mozambique Cricket in recent times on the Africa Continent and he is set to replicate that in Ghana.
He is also committed to assisting the Ghana Cricket Association (GCA) in developing the game at the grassroots level in the schools and communities. Mr. Bhagat believes cricket can offer the youth in sports with careers and self discipline.
BGC 1 finished tops at the end of this year’s Accra T20 League after defeating Bel Aqua in the finals. Under 17 and Veterans settled for the third and fourth place respectively. The tournament will also serve as warm up matches for members of the national team who are currently preparing for two international competitions.
The Senior National Team will participate in Pepsi ICC Global WCL Division 8 in Apia, Samoa from the 15th – 22nd September 2012 and will also feature in this year’s ICC Africa Regional Division 2 Tournament in Benoni, South Africa in October.
The tournament is been organized in partnership with the Ghana Cricket Association (GCA), Shapoorji Palloni & Co. Limited with support from National Sports Authority.
