In a statement issued and signed by the Ambassador stated that, “My soul has subdued and my heart made tender through the demise of our great leader as I lie on my hospital bed in Germany.
I have mixed feelings of humility and sadness at the passing of a great son of the motherland. All Ghanaians, I am sure, have been weeping and yet, back of it all has been a consolation of a feeling of thanksgiving for the sacrificial life this great man lived.
The shock was unexpected and the actuality of the event was outside belief. In my heart are prayers and in my mind are thoughts, a flood of them drawn from so many years of acquaintance, close association in sports development activities in the country and reverent admiration.
It is so befitting that we should have sadness in our hearts and should weep at the passing of one we love, and one whom the Lord loves and has magnified.
He was a man without guile and with Christ-Like attributes. He was a very brilliant scholar, astute public servant and statesman, dedicated fighter for peace and justice.
The greatest tribute we can pay as a nation to this illustrious son of the land is to uphold the ideals he preached and died for. God bless the memory of President J.E.A Mills.
I am grateful beyond my words of expression for the close association which I have had with him for many years in the area of sports development and the benign influence of his sweet spirit.
May the Almighty grant the soul of the professor rest in perfect peace in His Bosom”.
