Olympics-Ghanaian boxer loses first bout

Ghana’s Isaac Dogbe failed to quality to the next stage if the ongoing London Olympics after a 10-9 bout lost to Satoshi Shimizu of Japan in the Bantam Weight (56kg) division.



Dogbe, 17 began the fight in an aggressive manner against his more experienced opponent as he dominated in the first two bouts leading the judges to score 4-3,3-2 in favoor of the Ghanaian.


However the last round of the bout saw the japanese winning the bout 5:2 he took advantage of his reach to outwit his Ghanaian opponent in third round of the competition.


The Games continue today with Ghana's duke Micah and Sulemanu Tetteh expected to take on their respective opponents at 7:00pm



In a related development Ghanaian boxer Maxwell Amponsah has been disqualified from the London Olympic Games boxing event on medical grounds.


Amposah underwent successful surgery on a fractured jaw suffered during the Olympic qualifies and was given the clear by the medical team of the Ghana Amateur Boxing Federation (GABF) to participate in the pre-Olympic games training camp.


However, the GABF and the Ghana Olympic Committee decided to err on the side of caution and withdraw him from the games since there are potential complications with his type of injury. Amposah was scheduled to fight against Chinese Xuanxuan Weng.
