2nd Mission Taekwondo Open Championship Kicks Off.

The Minister Of Youth and Sports, Hon. Clement Humado has appealed to the National Sports Authority and The Ghana Taekwondo Association(GTA) to liase with the Ghana Education Service to fashion out a programme that will introduce Taekwondo into the curricula of junior and Senior High Schools.

 

 

He noted that his Ministry is determined to provide support for the development and promotion of taekwondo from the grassroots to ensure that the country has a pool of good taekwondo athletes for international competitions.

 


The Minister made these remarks in a speech read on his behalf by the Director General of the National Sports Authority, Mr Wolanyo Agra at the opening ceremony of the 2nd Mission Taekwondo Open International Championship at the Accra Sports Stadium.

 


The two- day championship is under the Auspices of the Fredotu Taekwondo Foundation and the GTA will feature over 50 taekwondo practitioners from four participating countries, namely Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Niger and Burkina Faso.

 


The Minister assured Executives of GTA that his doors are always open and called on the media and corporate bodies to support Ghana Sports.

 


Present at the event was the, ambassador of the republic of Korea, H.E Mr. Jae min Kyun, , Counselor of the Korean Embassy, H.E Mr. Nam Hyuk Kim, Mr Essoh Wella-change d’affaire- Togo embassy, Frederick Lartey Otu-president of Freduto taekwondo foundation, Mr Wolanyo Agra and executives from the GTA.

 


Speaking at the event, the Korean Ambassador said that he was looking forward to a very good tournament showing various skills and confidence from the athletes.

 


On his part, Mr Frederick Otu reiterated that his foundation is committed to the growth of taekwondo in the West African region hence the expansion of this year’s tournament to include our West African neighbors. He said that the foundation will also train officials and referees in the game.

 


The championship continues tomorrow at 8:00am at the D.G Hathiramani Sports Hall.
