Ghana to Host Zone 3 African Karate Championship

Ghana will this year host the 13th edition of the Union of Federation African Karate (UFAK) Zone 3 Championship from the 30th July to August 6th 2011.

 

A statement signed by the Secretary General of the Karate-Do Association, Patrick Anyidoho  Cofie noted that Ghana was awarded to host the event after the impressive performance at the last UFAK Zone 3 Championship held in Niamey, Niger from 24th -30th may 2010 where the Ghanaian team won 0 One Gold, Four silver and One bronze.


The event will assemble 176 karatekas  from the 6 countries of the UFAK Zone three  countries which comprises Ghana , Nigeria ,Cote D’Ivoire, Liberia, Niger and Togo are all expected to participate in the event.


Thirty six (36) Executive Officials made up of Executive Committee members, Referees and Judges are also expected in Accra for the 8- day Championship.


The statement noted that Ghana will be represented by 19 karatekas and 5 technical officials under the leadership of Senseis Kwabena Poku and Frank Danso.


The statement indicated that trainings have begun at the Sports Hall of the Accra Sports Stadium on Tuesdays and Thursdays evenings and on Saturday mornings.
