National Independence Day Badminton Championships Ends

  • The three (3) days Badminton Championships dubbed “National Independence Day Badminton Championships” ended successful at the D.G. Hathiramani Sports Hall, Accra Sports Stadium on Monday, 7th March, 2011.

The event which started on Saturday, 5th March, 2011 was used to assess the Senior players and identify new and potential players for future development.

 

In all 105 Senior and Junior (U-19) players from across the country competed for honours in the championships in the singles and doubles events.

 

Surprises characterized the event especially in the Junior (Boys – Under 19) Category, where Richard Aidoo from Suhum emerged the winner.

 

In the Girls’ Under-19 Category, Diana Archer from Takoradi placed first. Daniel Sam and Evelyn Botwe all from Takoradi were both winners in the Men and Women Singles events.

 

• At the end of the event, 20 boys and girls were identified and selected for future development.

 

• The Chief Executive of National Sports Council (NSC), who performed the closing ceremony reiterated his commitments towards the development of the sport.

 

He tasked the Association to present a budget for consideration for funds to be released to organize officiating officials’ course – Umpires and line Judges, prior to the National Sports Festival.

 

The Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority and Meridian Port Services supported the Championship.
