The closing ceremony which took place on Tuesday, July 26th at the National Hockey Stadium featured some amazing judo displays and the hockey final match between Greater Accra and Fire service with the hosts picking up the Gold medal whiles fire walked away with silver.
The 10-day event assembled about 5,000 sportsmen and women who competed in 20 disciplines namely chess, netball, athletics, badminton, handball, hockey, judo, karate-do, taekwondo, disabled sports, scrabble, table tennis, tennis, colts soccer, basketball, netball, volleyball, cycling, swimming and weightlifting.
At the end of the Games, Greater Accra were Crowned winners with 51 gold, 50 silver and 37 bronze medals, Ashanti region came in second with 20 gold,37 silver and 43 bronze medals whiles Western took third place picking 16 gold,14 silver and 9 bronze medals.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, a member of the council of state, Mr Emmanuel Adjei Annan noted that the competition was very successful since the various sporting disciplines unearthed a lot of talents adding that the games also provided a rare opportunity for talents who came from different ethnic and diverse backgrounds to make new friends thus justifying the revival of the Games which sought to unite Ghanaians through sports.
He urged the technical team to be honest and transparent enough to select the best sportsmen and sports women to represent Ghana at the all Africa Games in Maputo, Mozambique.
