Greater Accra Volleyball Gala

The annual Greater Accra Volleyball Gala which is aimed primarily at getting the registered clubs in readiness for the 2011 Greater Accra Volleyball League Season came off at the Lebanon House, Tudu - Accra from 29th - 30th January, 2011.

The event which was organized by the Greater Accra Volleyball Association saw eleven (11) clubs participating. The clubs are; Ghana Air-force, Ghana Navy, Ghana Army, Ghana Prisons, Young Spikers, Holy Fingers, International Central Gospel church, Town Council Line, Osu Youth, La Pioneers and Stoke City.

 

The competition was held in both the male and female divisions. It was opened by the Regional Sports Development Officer for the Greater Accra Region Mr. Saka Acquaye.

 

At the end of the event, Ghana Air-force, Ghana Army and Stoke City placed first, second and third respectively in the male category. The female category saw Ghana Prison, Ghana Army and Ghana Air-force taking the first, second and third positions respectively.

 

 

The President of the Ghana Volleyball Association Mr. Paul Atchoe declared the event closed after two giant trophies had been presented to the winners of both the male and female events.

 

Standard of play was good and very impressive vis-à-vis the performances and skills exhibited by the individual players and teams in the preceding seasons

 

Officiating officials were balanced and fair in their decisions and ensured that players and officials who were recalcitrant were punished in accordance with the rules of the game.
