Seminar for hockey coaches, umpires Sat

The Ghana Hockey Association (GHA) is embarking on a radical programme to build the capacity of its technical men to position the country to play key roles, especially in officiating at the world stage, and to help in the growth of the sport in Ghana.

As a first step, the association is organizing a day’s seminar for selected Coaches and Umpires nationwide on Sat at the National Hockey Stadium. Twenty officials each of coaches and umpires have been selected through a rigorous process to help build the country’s stock of technical brains that will be expected to train other young ones across the country.

The Technical Director of GHA, Richard Abaidoo and one of the world’s finest in terms of umpiring, Richmond Attipoe, both of Bank of Ghana, will be the resource persons at the programme which is expected to run till evening.

They are expected to update the national coaches particularly on the new rules of the sports and the behavior of umpires at international competitions.

Attipoe, one of Africa’s best three umpires who have been busy at the World events, is expected to bring his rich experience to bear on the programme and to demonstrate in practical terms how things work at competitions.
