Independence day scrabble competition

The Independence Day Scrabble tournament will be held on Saturday, March 6, at the conference room of CSIR STEPRI, behind the Golden Tulip Hotel and near Alliance Francis.

The games will be played in two main divisions – professionals and amateurs.
Organizers expect an explosive competition never experienced in the annals of the sport as crack players have been training ahead of Saturday’s cliff-hanger.

Though the newly-crowned national champion, Kojo Achempong, will attempt to push aside all opposition to demonstrate the stuff he is made of, he is expected to have strong challenge from the liked of Dr. Akonnor, C.M. Placca and Christian Mensah.

Daniel Boadu of Tema has also peaked in form lately, but if there is anybody who can upset the applecart, then point to Ezekiel Markwei whose steep climb to the top could earn him the Indece title.

There are most attractive prizes including the most magnificent trophy ever in Ghana’s scrabble history as well as cash prices for the first five positions with three other awards going to the professionals and amateur divisions.

The Scrabble Association of Ghana (SCAG) has therefore thrown an initiation to all scrabble enthusiast nationwide and beyond to Saturday‘s event which is also geared at building momentum toward the annexation of the African championship later this year.

According to the organizers, balloting for the Indece Day competition stars at 9.am with the game itself rolling off an hour later. A total of 10 games will be played.
Players who report after the balloting would not be allowed to participate.
