Report on Talent Hunt Excercise at Sekondi on Saturday 6th Feb, 2010

Introduction

The exercise is a continuation of the Talent Hunt started last year throughout the country.

The aim is to scout the nooks and crannies of the country for new talents to be invited into the National Junior and Senior Netball Teams.

The players in the Western Region who took part in the exercise were selected during the western Region Inter-District Netball Championship in August, 2009.

Mode of selection

The exercise took place at the Essipong Sports Stadium, Sekondi. Over fourteen (14) players from the Western Region took part in the exercise.

Selected players from Accra played the selected players in a one-hour match during which the Technical Personnel from the Netball Association of Ghana picked the players from the Western Region based on their skill, adequate understanding of the rules of Netball, application of rules of Netball during play and general comportment.

Players finally selected (western region)
Four players were picked by the Technical Personnel from Western Region who will join the camping of the National Team later in Accra.

They are:

a) Adama Abdulai  (GD/GK/WD)
b) Safia Musah  (WA/C)
c) Matilda Dowunna  (C/WA)
d) Dorcas Ayipey  (GK/GD)

Conclusion

The Netball Association of Ghana expresses its profound gratitude to the Regional Sports Development Officer for Western Region, Mr. Beresford Amui and his able staff for their assistance. We also thank The Western Region Netball Association Executive, especially Merss S.K. Ackah and Hans-Anderson for their cooperation and support.

Finally, we thank the players of both Greater Accra and Western Regions for taking part in the event.

The next Talent Hunt exercise will take place in Tamale for players from the Northern, Upper East and Upper West Regions.
