Ghana To Host The 13th Union Of Federation Of African Karate Zone 3 Championship (UFAK)

The Ghana Karate-do Association has been mandated by the UFAK Secretariat in Cotonou, Benin to host the next UFAK ZONE 3 Championship in Accra, Ghana from the 30th of July to 6th of August, 2011.

Ghana was mandated to host the event after her impressive performance at the last UFAK Zone 3 Championship held in Niamey, Niger from the 24th to 30th May, 2010 where the Ghana team won one (1) Gold, four (4) Silvers and one (1) Bronze.

UFAK Zone three comprises of eight (8) countries namely, Ghana, Nigeria, Cote d’ivoire, Liberia, Niger and Togo. About one hundred and seventy-six athletes (karatekas) and officials from the various countries are expected to participate in the Competition and thirty six (36) Executive officials made up of Executive Committee members and Referees and Judges are also expected in Accra.

The ministry of Youth and Sports has already granted approval to the Association through the Sports Council to host the event in Ghana.

The Ghana Team of nineteen (19) Athletes (Karatekas) and five (5) technical officials under the leadership of Senseis Kwabena Poku and Frank Danso have started training at the Sports hall of the Accra Sports Stadium on Tuesdays, Thursdays evening and on Saturday mornings.
